Is it better to store extra books in the attic or basement?
I have too many books. I already have book cases in every room in the house and have a few that don’t fit on the shelves. I know neither place is idea but which is better?
I actually have a book shelve in the basement and one in the attic. I am afraid of the heat in the attic destroying the glue in the backings. The basement is pretty dry but the normal mustiness.
Attic if there’s any danger of flooding or the basement is damp. Either way try to get some air tight plastic storage boxes and moisture absorbing crystals if there’s any chance that the books are less than bone dry when you box them up. Make sure they are dust free and in good condition before you pack them. List everything and number the boxes so you can find a specific book without opening everything.
Finally, consider giving away books. I know that ’s a hard thing to do but if they go to a new home where they’ll be read it’s better than shutting them away in the dark
